Where Veil is the better fit
Create your own sound in Studio. Veil is our pick for the most customizable sleep sound app: tune the library sounds, then go further with Studio custom sound creation. Start with generated noise or a tuned library sound, then shape a three-point frequency curve and adjust its width. Creating and auditioning a Studio draft is free. Premium lets you save, replay and refine up to six Studio sounds, and combine saved Studio sounds with library sounds in mixes of up to three.
Return to your setup with one tap. One-tap routines bring back your sounds, levels, timer and fade together. The unchanged Focus, Nap, Sleep and Meditate starters play free. Premium lets you save and play custom or edited routines, including routines that use saved Studio sounds.
A noise machine, all the way down. Open it and the sound cards are the screen. There is no feed and no program to start. Tap brown noise or a fan and it plays, the timer is one tap further, precision volume lets you set the level exactly, and the bedside clock is there when you put the phone down. For someone who wants sound and sleep, that is the whole product, in a refined dark interface built for the nightstand.
No recorded track restarts, and everything can be shaped. BetterSleep plays recordings and uses Smart Mix to hide the joins. Veil synthesizes every sound on the phone while it plays, without a recorded track restarting, and each sound has controls that reach inside it. Lower Brightness on white noise, move the Character of brown noise toward Deep, change a fan's Pulse Speed and Focus, or adjust rain from a patter to a downpour. Twenty-seven starting sounds open into virtually endless variations.
Seven adjustable fans. Veil has seven fan styles, each synthesized with its own tonal shape and pulse and each adjustable well beyond its default: Pulse Speed, Pulse Strength, Pitch and Focus.
A price you can finish paying. Veil's six free sounds and their tuning controls are free, and optional premium is a $19.99 one-time lifetime unlock. BetterSleep's plans are monthly, annual and lifetime, priced by offer and platform.
